Trigger points are small, hypersensitive spots in the muscles that hurt to the touch and often shoot pain into the surrounding area — typically from the back into the head or shoulders. Trigger point massage is a targeted technique in which I apply pressure to these spots until the tension releases and the pain subsides.
How a trigger point massage works
First I palpate the specific painful points in the muscles. I then apply gradual, measured pressure with my fingers or elbow and hold it for a moment until the muscle begins to release. I always adapt the pressure to your sensitivity — it should be intense but bearable.
Once the point has released, I warm up and stretch the area so that the relief lasts.
What trigger point massage helps with
- Headaches and neck pain from overloaded muscles
- Stiff, aching back and shoulders
- Referred "shooting" pain into the arms or head
- Limited range of motion caused by muscle knots
- Chronic tension from sedentary work
Who it is suitable for
- People with recurring pain from specific muscle knots
- Sedentary jobs and computer work
- Athletes with overloaded muscles
What to keep in mind
After the massage the treated area may be more tender for a day or two — this is a normal reaction. I do not recommend the massage in cases of acute inflammation, fresh injuries or fever. For long-term problems, please consult your doctor first and let me know.
